Meetings Overview
Medical Deans Australia and New Zealand meet formally once a year. Participants include the medical deans from Australia, New Zealand, Fiji and Papua New Guinea. The main aims of the Annual Meeting are to develop informed opinions and advice on matters affecting medical education, and to agree on priority projects for the organisation for the coming year.
The meeting is usually held in September/October and is hosted by one of the medical faculties on a rotating basis. Invited guests often attend the annual meeting, including regular attendance by representatives of the Australian Medical Students' Association, the Commonwealth Department of Health and Ageing, the Australian Medical Council and the Committee of Presidents of Medical Colleges.
The medical deans also hold a short midyear annual meeting with representatives from the Department of Health and Ageing to discuss priority issues and Commonwealth policy matters affecting undergraduate medical education.
The Deans occasionally meet at other times during the year to discuss specific issues or to attend workshops on relevant topics or projects.
